The Proposal

On Friday, January 23rd, 1998 at 5:30 p.m., Michael took me to Marting Hall at Baldwin-Wallace College, the college we both attend. This building houses the Art History department and, since I am an Art History major, is very important to me. It happens to be one of the most beautiful buildings on campus and one of the oldest. Marting Hall, formerly known as Memorial Hall, was built in 1896 and renamed in 1938 to honor Dr. John C. Marting, treasurer of the college and Trustee for nearly half a century. It also includes a tower, which is highlighted in college pamphlets and on BWC merchandise. Anyway, back to the story, Michael took me here telling me he had to do research in a room that doesn't even exist--that'll teach me to know more about my school! He got down on one knee at the steps of Marting Hall and asked me to marry him! Of course, I said yes. It was just getting dark and there was no one around. The lights lining the walkways to the building had just lit up and it was beautiful...a cool, crisp Ohio day with snow, my favorite weather.
